Do Your Part

Now that you’ve taken the pledge, it’s time to take your commitment one step further. Our partners host a number of litter clean-up events throughout the year in Virginia.

Adopt-a-Highway

You take care of the things you love, and you love Virginia! Adopt-a-Highway encourages you and a group of your friends or co-workers to pick up litter twice a year and VDOT will provide trash bags, vests, safety information and highway signs to recognize your group.

Keep Virginia Beautiful

Virginia is beautiful, so let’s keep it that way! Gather your friends and sign up for events, trainings and clean-ups through Keep Virginia Beautiful, an organization dedicated to uniting Virginians to enhance the Commonwealth’s loveliness and charm.

Beautify Virginia

Let it be known that you love Virginia, but you don’t love litter. Sponsor a highway or interstate so travelers can remember Virginia for its beauty and hospitality and not its litter.

Take Action

Understanding that your trash is your responsibility is a lesson everyone needs to learn early in life. If you see a friend or family member litter, politely tell them that trash only goes in a recycling bin or trash can. Remember, there’s no need to argue about litter, when a gentle reminder from a friendly face could do the trick.

Student Activities

We want students to adopt positive habits, and that’s why we’re developing educational materials for younger students and teenagers who will soon be driving on Virginia’s roads.
